I applied last week, but they had enough people by that point

I signed up and got the app, but haven't said |I'm available yet as I'm still working from home. I think I'll switch it on tomorrow and see what happens. The app makes it look like you have to administer first aid, when all I wanted to do was some shopping and deliveries.

Once the nightingales are open they will need a lot of people to shift the dead bodies from the wards to the mourges.

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
I'm not doing it, but I'm thinking really (REALLY) hard about doing it.

That's important, isn't it? I mean, they do say that it's the thought that counts.

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
Same as Iron Duke. Applied, got the app. Not medical and can’t drive anyone around as my last DBS check was over a year ago. Not sure there is much I can do but time will tell.

Most of us are helping the NHS by staying clear of trouble.

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
Sounds like alot of people applied just so they could boast that they had done something to their Facebook pals. They won't actually want to do any work

Applied… still not heard yet… got the green light from work to help out where I can… missus told us yesterday that a MATE of hers applied and was set to go to Southend Hospital for some training at what they needed to do (OAP care feeding??) … 30 was meant to turn up ... only 8 eventually did… I wonder if the other 22 had the same excuses… they was too busy posting up their shit on FB

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
There’s a LOT of virtue signalling going on on fb unsurprisingly.

A group of Dorises did a photo of themselves outside an Aldi on a local page I look at holding a4 bits of paper with “ well done shop staff” written on them in biro.

5 of them. Together.

I’m signed up. Will be interesting to see how they utilise my main skills of playing speed chess and arguing on the Internet.

I haven’t got Facebook but will sign up in the event of getting some mundane tasks to perform.

The funniest thing is my sisters walter Mitty bullshit boyfriend who has supposedly been in the Royal Marines and served in Afghanistan … then trained to be a para medic… only for the day he was supposed to start work he mysteriously got PSD… this was 2 years ago… well… he’s been very very quiet recently… although my divvy sister did post up on FB that he told her to just sit there and look pretty and he would go shopping for her .. after all he had survived Afganistan… the walter mitty cunt

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
Just read that for many without medical skills or a current DBS, twiddling the thumbs is common at the mo. The majority will only be needed if this drags on. Haven’t posted this on FB as it’s mostly full of spanners.

What's DBS?

Iron Duke 1:46 Fri Apr 3
Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
It's a check on your criminal record, and to make sure you're not on the "register". I thought they did the DBS check for you.

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
ID

The DBS service can't keep up (DBS are obv time limited anyway).

NHS already waiving the usual requirement for retired medics coming back.

They've balanced the risk of dodgy people doing something harmful v the amount of suffering if the volunteers have to wait months before they can start.

Expect a spike in crime against the person.

Re: Who's Doing NHS volunteering work
I am registered and have a DBS because of tutoring and my wife works for the NHS, technically.

Nothing yet, but I think this is a "saucepans to Spitfires" type thing where the morale of it is as (or more) important as the practical use.

It is a good story to hear, which we have a few of, thankfully.
